Taming Anxiety

Anxiety tends to manifest itself with a double whammy, with physical effects and excessive worry.  People with an anxiety disorder tend to expect disaster, can't stop worrying about money, health, family, work, or school. Waking up with fear and worry, living with those throughout the day will interfere with your ability to function effectively in school, at work, in relationships.
Do you wish you could enjoy the good things in your life? Do you wish you could see the good things in your life?

You may have some very good reasons for your stress, but there are ways to reduce or eliminate it entirely.

After you describe how anxiety affects you and your thinking, we will identify negative thoughts that increase your anxiety and address them with a powerful tool: your own personal strengths.
You can learn the safest, most effective techniques for reducing stress you can use any place, any time.
If you are ready to feel well, call for an appointment. let's address your anxiety together!

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Your body and mind work together to create a way to deal with a life-threatening situation. They work so well, in fact, that they stay on alert, creating overreactions to innocuous situations...unless we ameliorate both body's and mind's responses. Cognitive behavioral therapy and calming techniques under the guidance of an experienced and understanding psychotherapist lead to a more reasonable way to respond to life. If you have experienced an event that you felt was life-threatening, if you try to avoid places, people or things that remind you of the event, and are much more sensitive to normal life sensations, you may be suffering from post traumatic stress disorder. In confidential conversations with a therapist experienced in treating PTSD, you do not have to be afraid that you will relive the experience that led to it. Fear is usually the greatest obstacle for finding real help that can put your experiences into proper perspective for a well-adjusted life.

Panic Attacks

These are different from Generalized Anxiety Disorder in that they are sudden, seemingly unprovoked "attacks" on the body. They can include heart palpitations, chest pains, dizziness, difficulty breathing, trembling, even tingling or numbness in the hands and sometimes a dreamlike sensation. If your physician has ruled out a medical condition, you need to see a therapist experienced in this form of anxiety. Leaving it untreated can cause even greater problems when you try to avoid anything that you believe may cause another. Life can become seriously diminished until you have learned to tame your anxiety.
Self-help books can be useful in giving you some understanding about stress. But, there is no one-size-fits-all solution to reducing or eliminating stress and worry. In our conversations, we will find out what causes you the greatest concern, and how it impacts your life. Then we can tailor-fit the best ways to reduce or eliminate your stress.
It really is that simple, if you are ready for a positive change in your life. When you are sure you've had enough sleepless nights, snapping at co-workers, family or friends, startling at common noises, being distracted and less efficient, or just not enjoying the way you feel, contact me.
